I think that having iPads in the classroom could help my students learn geography better. As shown in the workshop I attended, the app Bearfoot Atlas is an interactive 3D globe that allows students to learn about the world in a different way. This app contains real and animated pictures, capitals, temperatures, and the animals in different regions. I think that learning geography through maps can be confusing and make students uninterested because they are looking at the world in only one dimension. This app could spark students interest in learning geography and about the customs and life in different parts of the world! Of course, Bearfoot Atlas is not the only app that could help students learn with iPads. I was also very impressed with the Educreation and Story Lines apps and think they could be put to good use in my classroom!
I think that the Smartboard could help my class better learn math concepts. Using the standard chalkboard or whiteboard can be difficult for students to see what the teacher is writing and can cause them to have trouble following along. The Smartboard makes it easier for teachers to write math equations that allow the students to stay engaged in their learning. I also believe that in this digital world we live in, a tool like the Smartboard can help students become more interested and excited about their learning! Using new technologies sparks students interest which, I believe, would cause them to learn any subject taught with a smartboard more efficiently and effectively!
